Jaer was one of the first twenty players that signed contracts to play for the Southern Kings in the 2016 Super Rugby season.

Jaer made his Currie Cup Debut for the Cheetahs on 30 Jul 2017 against the WP.

PRO 14 debut – 10 February 2018 vs. Cardiff Blues in Wales.

Malcolm Jaer has been one of the real stars for the Toyota Cheetahs during the 2018/19 Pro14 campaign. He has been rated very highly by the teams in Europe for his ability to create attacking options for the Cheetahs from nothing. Along with Rabz Maxwane, he is one of the leading players in the competition when it comes to line breaks and metres gained.
